Developed in Germany, the Boxer is a stocky, medium dog breed with a smooth and fawn or brindled coat either with or without white markings.
Boxer dogs (also called German Boxer & Deutscher Boxer) have a square muzzle and very strong jaws with a powerful bite ideal for hanging on to large prey and were originally used for bull baiting and as guard dogs. Today they are mainly companions and are popular show dogs.
Boxers are a bright, energetic and playful dog breed and tend to be very good with children. They are active dogs and require adequate exercise to prevent boredom. The Boxer by nature is not an aggressive or vicious dog breed, but it does need socialization. They are generally more comfortable with companionship, in either human or canine form.
The Boxer was bred from the English Bulldog and the now extinct Bullenbeisser and is part of the Molosser group.
